Song Selection
During this lesson, we will begin selecting your “go-to” college audition songs. These include a Contemporary Selection, a Pre-1970 Selection, and back-ups of each. Additional requirements (arias, pop songs, etc.) will be prepped once your “go-tos” are up on their feet.
Before the start of your Song Selection lesson:
Please save a copy and fill out the following document before your lesson and put in your Google Drive Folder. This will help your Song Selection coach get an idea of any rep that may be useable for your audition as go-to songs or back-ups.
Be warmed up vocally and ready to go.
Be prepared to sing at least 2 contrasting songs (approximately 32 bars or 90 seconds each, sung with track or acapella). We recommend bringing 3 or more songs of varying vocal/musical styles & ranges, to ensure your coach gets a full vocal picture of you!
Have your “Songs” folder pulled up on Google Drive.
Have a paper and pen to take notes.
Be sure your Zoom Audio settings are set to: “Original Sound for Musicians: ON”
Number Of Lessons:
Please refer to the recommended number of lessons laid out in your Assigned Coaches/Suggested Number of Lessons sheet in your Google Drive Folder. Typically, students take 2-3 Song Selection lessons and continue their prep during further Song Prep lessons.
We do recommend working in tandem with your personal Voice Teacher, or doubling down on lessons with your MCA Vocal Coach to receive voice technique training as well if you do not currently study with a regular voice teacher.
