Prescreen FAQs
Headshots FAQs
+ Is there an accompanist provided?
No. Almost every school specifies that they for you to use (if not require) a pre-recorded track. We provide a sophisticated sound system to play all music tracks. If you haven't gotten tracks recorded yet and need to do so, you can purchase them from us here. If you would prefer to bring your own accompanist, please let us know and we will provide a keyboard.
+ What do you need before the shoot?
Great question! Here is what we will need from you before the shoot:
- A comprehensive list of what needs to be recorded. Please fill out the Pre-Screen Requirement Sheet that will be sent via email ahead of your shoot.
- All piano/accompaniment tracks for all songs. Separate tracks for all song cuts.
+ What should I bring to the shoot?
- All piano/accompaniment tracks for all songs and cuts (please bring along and also put in your MCA Google Drive folder beforehand.)
- At least three outfits so we can help decide on the best one. Stick with solid colors, and jewel and earth tones are always good. These outfits should be clean, fitted and complimentary. Some schools require full body shots - so shoes will be filmed too! Feel free to email your consultant with clothing options if you need help deciding!
- Your hair/make-up should be completely done and ready to rock by the time you arrive!
- Your comprehensive list of what needs to be filmed.
- Be completely warmed up and ready to go!!
+ When will I get my videos?
You will receive your videos one-two weeks after your shoot via Google Drive. If you need them quicker, you can purchase a 3-day turnaround for an additional $125, payable to the photographer on the day of your shoot
+ Once I receive the videos from you - then what do I do?
Download them to your computer! In order to save the videos, you must download them - we are not responsible for keeping copies of your videos on file. You will then upload them to Acceptd (or wherever your schools ask to receive your submissions.)
+ What do I wear?
Bring lots of options! Particularly, bring clothes that bring out your eyes - blues, browns, greens, and oranges all work well. For the most part, it's good to stick with solid colors - jewel and earth tones are good. Heavy textures like wool, canvas, and linen are also great, as well as layers. Your photographer likely won’t be shooting much below the waist, so just wear bottoms and shoes you're comfortable in. We also highly recommend everyone wear a low-cut neutral tank top or v-neck for quick changing. And remember, while it is better to have too many choices as opposed to too few, don't bring your entire closet! You'll save valuable shooting time if you narrow your choices down to things you KNOW you want to shoot in.
+ What should I prepare?
Make sure and hydrate and get lots of rest the week leading up to the shoot! The day of the shoot, sleep in a little, eat some great food, and relax. Unless you’ve hired a makeup artist, put on your makeup about an hour before the shoot. It should be fairly natural- what you would wear to an audition. Male-identifiers, you actually might want to wear a bit of makeup too- just enough to cover up blemishes, reduce shine, and lighten under your eyes. Once your makeup is on and you’re wearing your initial outfit, grab your other clothes, a snack, and some water, and head to our location. Please be on time!
+ What happens after?
Your photographer will narrow down your photos, removing any that are unusable due to missed focus, blinking, etc. Those picks are lightly processed to make them presentable. (This processing does not include retouching, which is a much more in-depth editing process performed on a per-photo basis.) You'll then receive a link to your gallery via email; the gallery will be downloadable and shareable.
+ What is your re-shoot policy?
If you can’t find any photos that you absolutely love, you must let your photographer know within two weeks of your session, and they can discuss options for a reshoot.
