Digital Dance
Welcome to your digital dance experience!
If you are searching for a way to continue training while at home, we have the perfect way to tackle prep in an effective and fun way to get you ready for even the most challenging of dance calls. Join Kristen Katsimpas (MCA Dance Coach + Dance Faculty at Boston Conservatory and Emerson College), as she leads you through:
Ballet barre
Ballet center
Jazz warm-up
2 MT combos
Remember, skills aren’t built overnight, so keep coming back and putting in the work. If the routines get dull, just remember, professional dancers run the same choreography for months at a time. It’s in the repetition where the magic happens
Recommendation for your home practice:
Find a room with either wood or cement floors if possible.
For your barre, you can use a kitchen counter or back of a chair.
You can optionally purchase a small home barre as well; here is our recommendation.
Once you start the video, expand to full screen so you can easily see Kristen.
Ballet
Create a strong foundation.
The greatest dancers in the world always come back to a simple ballet barre to stay in shape, work the basics, and keep their foundation strong. We recommend taking the full ballet class below at least twice a week if not more to prepare yourself for audition season and the rigors of a BFA program. If you don’t have time, just complete the barre video. It is not advisable to jump straight into center without warming up first.
Ballet Barre (42 min)
Ballet Center (18 min)
Jazz
The roots of musical theatre dance.
While ballet lays the foundations for great dance skills, jazz lays the foundation for musical theatre dance. With this warm-up and combos under your belt, you’ll be ready to tackle dance calls and prescreen dance routines with no sweat (well you may sweat a bit). We recommend picking one combo to learn first and focus on before trying the other. Put yourself in the mindset that you are learning the routine on the spot in the audition and see how much you can remember without watching the video! Remember, please take the warm-up each time so you aren’t dancing cold.
