Acting for the Song

You will be prepped to create clear acting choices for your 60-90 second cuts + full songs for your “go-to” pieces (or, the ones you will likely use for prescreens and most in person auditions). Additional requirements (back-up songs, pop songs, etc.) will be prepped once your “go-tos” are up on their feet.

Before the start of your FIRST Acting for the Song lesson:

  • You should feel confident and be vocally prepared on your 16, 32 and Full Song cuts for your “go-to” songs (at minimum) before pursuing this lesson.

  • Your Song Selection lesson and a good handful of your Song Preparation lessons should be complete. Please get the “go ahead” from your Song Coach or Vocal Coach before signing up for these lessons.

  • You must have Music Tracks for all of your song cuts. You can purchase these on the MCA Student Dashboard. If you do not have these for your first Acting for the Song lesson, that is okay, but they must be purchased by lesson #2 in order to take full advantage of the lesson.

  • Your music tracks and sheet music should be in your “Songs” Folder on Google Drive

  • Have your “Master Spreadsheet” in your Google Drive Folder filled out with all necessary audition requirements

  • Have a paper and pen

  • Be sure your Zoom Audio settings are set to: “Original Sound for Musicians: ON

Number Of Lessons:

  • Please refer to the recommended number of lessons laid out in your Assigned Coaches/Suggested Number of Lessons sheet in your Google Drive Folder.

  • If the suggested number of lessons will not be doable due to limited time, resources or other logistical factors - don’t sweat it! We’ll discuss this in our first lesson together and make a game plan together. It’s super important to try to share honestly and accurately the frequency of lessons you will be able to pursue so coaches can plan accordingly to make sure they optimize their time with you.

  • Typically, 1-2 weeks between each lesson is appropriate when scheduling to allow for time to process, rehearse and come to the next lesson with new discoveries and questions! Of course, we’ll discuss your specific needs in our first lesson.
